AI chatbot for Magento and Adobe Commerce: a technical integration guide

In short: An AI shopping assistant integrated with a Magento / Adobe Commerce store works from the store's own product data, variants and availability, plus agreed guidance and PDF documents. Where the integration supports it, it can also estimate delivery costs with the store's own calculation, add supported products to the basket and show a customer's own order status. The Magento / Adobe Commerce integration for Neuwon, JR Soft's AI shopping assistant, is available now. The WooCommerce integration is nearly ready and coming soon, and Shopify is in development.

Why the integration is what matters

A chatbot built on website text can explain delivery terms and point customers to the right page. In a Magento store, though, the information that matters lives in the catalogue: attributes, variants, stock and the store's delivery calculation.

When the assistant is connected directly to the store, it isn't interpreting product page copy. It works from the same data the store uses to build its product pages and checkout, so its answers stay consistent with what the customer sees.

This matters most in large catalogues with plenty of products and attributes but relatively little editorial content. When stock or product data changes in the store, nobody has to remember to update a separate help text.

Which Magento data the assistant uses

The data and functions to include are agreed during onboarding. Typically that means:

  • Product data: names, descriptions and attributes such as dimensions, materials and technical values.
  • Variants: size and colour options, for example, and their availability.
  • Availability: online stock and, where the data is part of the integration, availability by physical store.
  • Store guidance: delivery, returns and service guidance, along with merchant-approved and agreed external material.
  • PDF documents: user and installation manuals, data sheets and brochures linked to products.

You decide what the assistant gets to use. Anything not agreed as a source is outside its answers.

Store functions the integration brings into the chat

Delivery cost estimates

Customers can ask about delivery costs for a particular product and quantity, or for their current basket. The estimate and available delivery methods come from the store's own delivery calculation for the given destination. It is an estimate; the final price is confirmed at checkout.

Basket

Supported products can be added to the basket and quantities changed in the conversation. Where a product has required options, as Magento configurable or customisable products often do, the customer is sent to the product page to make those choices. The assistant doesn't choose on the customer's behalf.

Order tracking

Customers can check the processing and shipping status of their own order. Guests identify themselves with their order number and checkout email; signed-in customers can ask about their recent orders. Access is checked through the integration, partially shipped orders are shown as such, and no delivery promise is made when source data is missing.

Contact and quote requests

When an answer needs the store's expertise, the assistant prepares a contact request with the customer's approval. In B2B situations, customers can describe products and quantities, and Neuwon assembles a quote request for the merchant to handle. A quote request isn't an order or an automatically accepted quote.

The exact scope of these functions depends on the platform integration, store settings and available data.

Example: one question, several data sources

Here's an illustration of how the sources come together. On a light fitting's product page, a customer asks: "Can this be installed outdoors?"

  1. The assistant identifies the product and checks its attributes, such as an ingress protection rating if that is stored in the product data.
  2. If an installation manual is linked to the product, it looks for the answer in that model's document and links to the original.
  3. If the customer then asks how many are available and what delivery would cost, the answer comes from store availability and the delivery calculation.
  4. If neither the product data nor the manual has the answer, it says so and offers to contact the store with the customer's approval.

Every step relies on the store's own agreed data. The merchant can later read conversations in the admin and fill gaps in the product data if the same question keeps coming up.

How onboarding works

  1. Connect your data. We agree the product data, guidance, documents and store functions to include, and check the store theme, data coverage and the customer journeys needed.
  2. Test at your own pace. You try the assistant on real store data in a private preview. Pick test questions from your customer service team's everyday work.
  3. Go live with your approval. Neuwon opens to customers only when you're ready. Data and guidance updates continue in a controlled way after launch.

Installation and onboarding are free. Technical details of the integration are worked through store by store.

Preparation checklist for Magento merchants

An assistant is only as good as its sources. Worth reviewing before onboarding:

  • Attribute coverage. If dimensions, materials or technical values are missing for some products, the assistant can't compare them. Start with your best-selling categories.
  • Consistent values. Express the same property the same way across the catalogue, e.g. always in the same unit.
  • Variant structure. Make sure size and colour options are modelled consistently.
  • Store and stock data. If you want to show availability by physical store, establish where that data comes from and how current it is.
  • PDF material. Gather your key manuals and data sheets. Text-based PDFs are generally easier to read than scanned images.
  • Service content. Update delivery and returns guidance so the assistant states current policy.
  • Handover. Decide who responds to the contact and quote requests the assistant passes on.

What about WooCommerce, Shopify and ordinary websites?

Neuwon isn't a Magento-only product. The WooCommerce integration is nearly ready and coming soon, although it hasn't been generally released and no release date is confirmed. A Shopify integration is in development. For integrations in development, data coverage, store extensions and customer journeys are checked before launch.

Neuwon also works on ordinary websites without ecommerce, answering from agreed content and documents and collecting contact requests. Stock, basket and order tracking need an integration that supports them. Read more about the WooCommerce integration and all integrations.
